If there’s anything I love as much as jiu-jitsu, it’s delivering good news. Here are a couple of pieces of good news — whether you’re an existing student or interested in trying BJJ for the first time.
First, due to a heroic effort from several volunteers, we’ve installed mats and frames at our new location (205 W. Holly St., downtown) a full month before we’d planned to! We’ll continue to improve the space constantly, and we have big plans for creating the most welcoming environment possible for training.
But as of May 1, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes are on at Bellingham BJJ!
If you’re an existing student — someone who has been training with us out of Bellingham MMA — your dues are taken care of through June 30, so that’s two months of free training to start you off right in the new spot. (I said I had good news, right?)
Check out the schedule here: we have a dozen class offerings, gi and no-gi, and an open mat that’s open to everyone.
But wait, there’s more (I’ve always wanted to say that).
If you’re not an existing student, and you want to try jiu-jitsu for the first time, we have two potential options. First is our popular Intro to BJJ class series. We had a rush of interest in this last time we ran it, and I think it was a wild success! A lot of folks still training with us today started with our first Intro session. This starts June 17 and runs on Monday and Wednesday nights.
For the first time, we’re also offering a 6-week Self Defense Course for Women & Non-Binary Folks. We announced it yesterday and already have our first students, so that’s exciting! Betsy O’Donovan will be facilitating this course and I’ll be teaching the techniques. This starts June 18 and runs on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
Each class is just $150 for two months of training, and each comes with a free, high-quality gi. This is a pretty sick deal, if I do say so myself, and these typically fill up fast — we cap them at 30 students. If you want to sign up, email me at jeff@bellinghambjj.com and we’ll get you set up.
Whether you’re a brand new student or a Bellingham BJJ regular, we’ve got some great stuff planned. See you on the mats soon!
Hi my name’s Chris and I’m 26 years old. I don’t have any experience with fighting but I’m a pretty athletic person in general. Recently I’ve been hitting the punching bag at my local gym and I find it to be great exercise and overall very fun. I’m mainly interested in boxing but I’d like to check out your gym sometime!
Hey, Chris — come by anytime; we love introducing people to jiu-jitsu! If you have any questions, drop me a note at jeff@bellinghambjj.com.
I’m really interested in the intro to BJJ course starting in June, but I have 9 month old daughter and my schedule is a bit tight. What are the days/times that the classes will be held?
Josh, I’m so sorry we missed this message. Our intro class happens about five times a year (so there’s one in June and another starting the first week of September). It’s a one-hour class from 6-7 p.m., two nights a week, plus access to Saturday open mats from noon to 2 p.m. The June class will run Monday/Wednesday nights; September will be a Tuesday/Thursday rotation. Please come check us out at 205 W. Holly St. — and come train!
