Great progress! As we move forward with re-opening, we have a ton of exciting things scheduled for this summer that we want to share with you — starting next week. Let’s begin with the return of …
Women/NB Self Defense: Starts June 5
For six weeks on Saturdays, beginning this Saturday, we’ll be doing Self Defense Saturdays at 1 p.m. Any women or non-binary folks training at the academy are welcome to come to these classes at no extra charge. (Folks outside the academy are joining the class, too, and if you’re interested, you can sign up here). If it goes well, we’ll continue with this series. Also returning in June:
Intro to BJJ: Starts June 7
Our next Intro to BJJ series begins on Monday! For the 12th straight session, this class has sold out. We may run a July session, or we may not. I have some things in the works that will add even more opportunities to train, and I want to see how that plays out — but we may not offer Intro again until August. Stay tuned for updates.
Street Clothes BJJ: June 25
For the foreseeable future, we’ll only have one Friday night class a month — but that class will be the triumphant comeback of Street Clothes Jiujitsu! These street clothes classes will run on the last Friday of the month, every month.
Blue Belt Testing: July 3
The next opportunity for blue belt testing is July 3. I’ve already talked to the folks who are testing. If I haven’t chatted with you about testing, and you have stripes on your belt, the next round will happen in late August.
Seph Smith seminar: July 24
If you got to train with Seph — owner of Upstream BJJ in Richmond, VA — when he came two years ago, you know how great he is as an instructor and training partner. Seph will be dropping knowledge at a seminar on July 24, and also training with us from roughly July 23-July 30.
Scavenger Hunt / Outdoor Pizza: July 31
Every Summer — except last summer, the Summer of Unpleasantness — we have a team get-together that features a scavenger hunt of downtown Bellingham and culminates in an outdoor fiesta at Chez Shawdonovan in the Fountain District. Save July 31 for this!
Junny Ocasio seminar: Late August-Early September
Junny Ocasio from Unity Jiujitsu in NYC is one of the best in the world no-gi, and he’s going to be here later this summer. Until then, be sure to watch Junny take on Mikey Musumeci at WNO on June 18!
This is just the beginning, and we’re talking with lots of other great guest instructors about coming to visit. In the meantime, check out our schedule for this summer, and let us know if there are any classes missing that you’d like to see added!
